President's Message
April 28, 2004
SABO Members:
Over the past year it has been a challenge. We have faced some difficult times and have overcome them together. I would like to thank each and everyone one of you for the professionalism and hard work that you have shown. I hope that you know by now this is your association and the board that you have chosen will act on your request. We need suggestions and new ideas on recruitment and training. We would like to move SABO in the right direction to make us stronger and more consistent. This will only happen if we all participate and get involved. This summer, at the Presidents Meeting in June, the FHSAA has opened it to all members of the Executive Board, especially the Commissioner and Treasurer. This will be an all-day seminar in Tampa to discuss the way our Association is doing things in reference with the other associations in the State. The FHSAA has asked for different topics to add to their agenda. One of the things I would like for each of you to do before June 1, give me some Ideas you would like me to take to the table when we go.
This summer, we have the opportunity to really get a jump on our training and evaluations. We are working with UNF on covering their boys and girls basketball camps. The Boys will be on June 11,12 & 13th. You need to give McKennis Allen a call and help him out. He has devised a system we are going to use. You will work in 3 man teams doing two games a set. This camp should have some exciting contests and will allow for members who don’t usually work three-man to get some experience. The Girls camp will be July 16, 17, 18 and it will be in the format of a training clinic. As we did last year, this will count toward the 10 training clinics that the FHSAA requires us to provide for extra points. At this camp we will be also doing some pre-season evaluations.
Once again we have requested to host a Field Clinic, I will not know if we get that opportunity until later this summer, but if we do, we will need volunteers as we did last year. Our Field Clinic last year was a complete success and we can only get better this year.
To address some of the concern on our pay schedules, we are going to order the full package of software from Arbiter that should help the treasurer with writing checks. We have cleaned up the Constitution with the Amendments and with the paying of dues each member will be given a copy. We are working on keeping better internal records for our association so at the request of any member we can bring up past reports and facts. At our last executive board meeting I requested my treasurer, secretary and commissioner to compile a copy of each of their transactions dealing with the past season and label it as 2003 and 2004 season of SABO. The up coming season will also be done in this matter. This type of record keeping is at the most utmost importance to our association to aide us in making decisions and answering questions that might arise in the future.
I will be getting with the Revenue and Compensation Committee on our annual budget with was established last Year and see if we are on track. Just for the record, we were well within our budget for last season and that is to be Commended due to it being our first and we had to estimate so many things.
I would like to implement an award committee to give out awards during our regular season meetings for different accomplishments; this to me is the way we get better. We will discuss this at our Executive Board Meetings over the summer and let the membership know of our ideas.
These are just a few things that are going on in SABO, we are growing we are strong and we are united as a strong Association and I hope we can continue to prosper as a group and as individuals in our sport.
Thank you for all of your support and please feel free to give me a call and let me know what I can do to help you and your association to stay on top of our game.
Margaret Busbee
SABO President
